ASEAN Rail Summit 2025

The 4th ASEAN Rail Summit, scheduled for January 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, is set to bring together more than 300 railway industry experts and decision-makers to discuss the future of Southeast Asia’s rapidly expanding rail network.

Under the theme “Global Tech Fusion, Rail Connects Nations”, the two-day conference will address critical developments in the region’s rail infrastructure, which is projected to exceed 40,000 kilometres of track by 2024. The summit comes at a crucial time, with the Asian Development Bank forecasting 5% growth for ASEAN economies in 2024 and infrastructure investments expected to reach US$3.147 trillion by 2030.

Malaysia, the host nation and Southeast Asia’s third-largest economy, represents a key market for rail development. Following 3.7% growth in 2023, the country is anticipated to achieve 4.4% growth in 2024, marking what officials term a “take-off year” for economic transformation.

The summit’s agenda encompasses four main sessions, focusing on market development, digital technology, cross-border project planning, and intelligent operations. Notable topics include the successful implementation of flagship projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, the China-Laos Railway, and the China-Thailand Railway.
