Vianova Webinar #9- UK E-scooter trials – one year on!

The last year and a half has seen fundamental challenges and changes in travel behavior as well as a renewed focus on supporting and delivering sustainable, multi-modal, and robust public transport systems that support regional mobility as well as local needs. This part of the wider narrative as we design net-zero mobility lifestyles. But the last year has also seen, for many, a redefinition of the world of work and a rapid acceleration in many home-centered lifestyle trends.

Private and shared micro-mobility has been an increasing part of the transport mix in many cities for several years, however, the year has seen a focus on embedding these systems in urban transport.

It is within this context that the UK government enabled e-scooters to be trialed in cities across England in early 2020. Personal e-scooter use in the UK remains, as it always has been, illegal on public roads and pathways.

There are many questions and issues for the UK government to consider as well as the range of local authorities operating English trials. One year on from the start of UK e-scooter trials, what have we learned?

Topics that we’ll discuss with our guests:

*How does the UK consider and manage the use of this increasing range of mobility options?

*Which forms offer real mobility benefits as well as how can they be deployed in ways that protect the wider needs of society including the use of limited pavement space?

*How do these devices, including e-scooters, work with our classic modes of sustainable transport, and should public authorities be doing more to integrate the operation of these modes?

*How can data drive robust decision-making?
