Sustainable Mobility and Road Safety Summit
Sustainability and safety are two closely interrelated concepts. While sustainability is typically associated with environmental resources, safety is about human resources and the safeguarding of human life. A transportation system cannot be sustainable if it is not safe for humans and nothing is more valuable than human life. Road safety can be described as not only the measures taken to reduce the risk of road traffic injuries and deaths, but also the feeling of being safe within the road system. Safety is now acknowledged in global environmental policies as essential to achieve sustainable development and strengthen economic growth.
Despite the fact that European roads are the safest in the world and road safety has improved greatly in recent decades, the number of deaths and injuries is still far too high and progress has slowed. Will the EU and its member states succeed in their Vision Zero and Safe System approach to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on European roads by 2050?
It is against this backdrop that The Economist Impact Events, have great pleasure in inviting you to the forthcoming Economist Sustainable Mobility and the Road Safety Summit, which is being organised on November 22nd, 2023 at the Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso on the occasion of The Annual Sustainability Summit for SE Europe and the Mediterranean.
